Egypt

Overview

Egypt is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The country has an abundance of ancient history and culture, with its spectacular pyramids, temples and tombs.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built as a tomb for Egypt’s Pharaoh Khufu (also known as Cheops) over four decades around 2560 BC. It is made up of about 2 million limestone blocks, each weighing from two to six tons.

The Great Pyramid is located on the outskirts of modern-day Cairo in Giza, about 60 km (37 miles) west of Cairo. It sits at the center of a vast necropolis that contains over 20 pyramids from all periods in Egyptian history. You can see other ancient structures such as the Sphinx at Giza; this statue is thought to have been carved around 2200 BC and depicts a pharaoh reclining on his throne facing east towards sunrise.

The Valley Temple was constructed around 2500 BC during the reigns of Cheops’ son Khufu and grandson Khafra while they were building their father’s pyramid complex at Giza; it is located between those two pyramids across.

Visit the land of the pharaoh and experience the best of ancient history and culture, with its spectacular pyramids, temples and tombs.
